Matete Stadium was brought to life on Sunday 14th December 2025 as fans witnessed one of the most dramatic and long‑awaited fixtures of the season, with The Iron Ladies facing off against the high‑flying and unbeaten Solasa Stima in a National Super League showdown.
Coming into the match, Solasa Stima carried an intimidating unbeaten run and were widely tipped as favourites, while the Iron Ladies were viewed as underdogs. However, football once again proved that matches are won on the pitch, not on paper.

The Iron Ladies sent an early warning just six minutes into the game when Lillian Liambila, popularly known as Farouk, announced herself on the big stage in style. Playing only her second NSL match after recently completing her KCSE examinations, the young forward showed composure beyond her years to score her maiden NSL goal, sending the Matete faithful into wild celebrations.
The visitors responded almost immediately. Just two minutes later (8th minute), Solasa Stima found the equaliser, restoring parity and setting the tone for an intense and physical encounter. Both sides battled fiercely through midfield, with chances coming at both ends as the first half ended locked at 1–1.
The second half saw tactical adjustments from both benches, but it was the Iron Ladies’ depth that ultimately made the difference. Introduced as a super sub, Delphine Wanyonyi replaced Goretti and wasted no time in making her presence felt. With confidence and determination, Delphine netted her maiden NSL goal, a decisive strike that sent shockwaves through the Solasa Stima camp and effectively ended their unbeaten run.
The final whistle confirmed a famous 2–1 victory for the Iron Ladies — a result that will go down as one of the club’s most memorable performances this season. It was a triumph of belief, teamwork, and resilience, as the team defied all odds to bring down one of the league’s strongest sides.
With momentum now firmly on their side, the Iron Ladies will quickly shift focus to their next challenge — an away fixture against Bunyore Starlets at Mumboha Stadium on Saturday 20th December. Confidence will be high as the team looks to build on this statement victory and continue their impressive rise.
