The Iron Ladies lived up to their nickname this weekend, delivering thrilling performances at Mukumu Boys High School grounds.
On Saturday afternoon, the visiting Victoria Ladies from Kobala, Nyanza Region, thought they had it in the bag — until utility player Shelvin and super striker Nicole staged a dramatic fightback to level the game 2–2.
Sunday brought even more fireworks. The Queens of Iten from Elgeyo Marakwet County were outclassed in a commanding 3–0 victory. Nicole struck twice in the first half, while Shelvin sealed the win with a late goal.
Despite the results, head coach Lemmy Easter was far from satisfied:
“We could have done better in both matches. There was a lot of laxity, and that’s something we must address before the league begins.”
The Iron Ladies will now turn their attention to their next preseason challenge — the Victoria Watoto Championship — kicking off this Tuesday in Mbita, Homa Bay County, where they will face heavyweights such as KWPL side Gedions Starlets in the group stages.
