The much-anticipated Eldoret Pre-Season Friendlies produced mixed emotions on Sunday, with The Iron Ladies Soccer Club registering a dominant performance in their opening fixture before unexpected drama marred the main match.
First Match:
Iron Ladies SC showcased their attacking prowess with a convincing 3-0 victory over Iten Queens. New signing Becky announced her arrival in style, scoring a stunning brace that left fans excited for the upcoming season. Club legend Delphine capped the win with a trademark finish, reaffirming her importance to the team.
Speaking after the game, Iron Ladies head coach Lemmy Easter praised his players:
> “The girls showed character and hunger today. Becky proved why we signed her, and Delphine reminded us why she is a legend of this club. We are building something strong for the new season.”

Main Fixture Drama:
The day’s headline fixture, Huruma Starlets SC vs The Iron Ladies Soccer Club, however, failed to take place. The match was called off after a group of rowdy men’s team invaded the pitch, insisting on playing their own friendly match, leading to an unavoidable disruption.

A disappointed Huruma Starlets coach Fred said:
> “This was supposed to be a big day for women’s football in Eldoret. What happened today is unacceptable and shows we need more respect and proper security for women’s matches.”
Despite the setback, the event attracted notable football leaders, including FKF Kakamega County Chairman Jeff Mudembei and FKF Uasin Gishu Chairman Peter Chesang, who condemned the incident.
Jeff Mudembei stated:
> “Women’s football is growing and we cannot allow such interruptions to derail progress. FKF will work closely with local stakeholders to ensure security is guaranteed at future matches.”
Peter Chesang added:
> “Uasin Gishu has great talent, and we are committed to supporting events like this. What happened today should never happen again. We need to protect the integrity of the game.”
Organizers have vowed to engage local authorities and stakeholders to prevent similar disruptions in future.
Iron Ladies SC will now shift focus to their upcoming trials on July 31st at DEB Lwandeti Primary School grounds as preparations for the new season continue.
