Iron Ladies Crowned Women Division I Zone D Champions After Final Day Drama

The final matchday of the Women Division I League Zone D delivered nothing short of high-stakes drama as title contenders Iron Ladies and Kisiwa Starlets fought to the finish in two separate venues.

At Matete Grounds, table leaders Iron Ladies hosted Matili TTI Ladies, while second-placed Kisiwa Starlets faced off against Huruma Starlets at Huruma Grounds in Eldoret. Both Iron Ladies and Kisiwa Starlets were locked on points, with only goal difference — a 10-goal advantage for the Iron Ladies — separating the two.

The pressure was palpable. Kisiwa Starlets surged to a quick 3-0 lead by halftime, temporarily overtaking Iron Ladies on the live standings. Meanwhile in Matete, the first half ended in a tense stalemate, with nerves running high.

But the Iron Ladies rose to the occasion.

In the 61st minute, midfield powerhouse Faith Masai broke the deadlock with a beautifully timed strike.

“I knew we needed something special,” said Faith. “When the ball came to me, I just focused and hit it clean. That goal was for the entire team — we weren’t going to give it away on the final day.”

With Kisiwa still threatening from Eldoret, Iron Ladies’ talismanic striker Nicole Hawi stepped up in the 79th minute, burying Matili’s hopes with a clinical finish.

“I’ve scored many goals this season, but this one meant everything,” said Nicole. “We had to prove we are not just good — we are champions.”

The 2-0 win sealed the title for Iron Ladies on goal difference, crowning them Zone D champions and earning promotion to the FKF Women’s National Super League.

Team Captain Viola Khalai, affectionately known as Shosh, missed the match due to injury but was present on the touchline, shouting instructions and support.

“It was tough not being on the pitch, but my team did me proud,” said Viola. “We’ve worked so hard for this moment. From the bench to the pitch — we are one team, one dream.”

Head Coach Lemmy Easter praised the team’s mental toughness.

“This wasn’t just a win, it was a show of character,” Lemmy stated. “The pressure was insane, but the girls stuck to the game plan. This team has earned its place in the National Super League.”

Super Team Manager Jeff Mudembei, visibly emotional after the final whistle, had this to say:

“This is a dream realized. From the first day of preseason, we’ve carried this vision. Today, that vision became reality. These girls are warriors.”

Fans who travelled to Matete in large numbers were not left out of the celebration.

“This is history! We followed them from Matete to Bungoma to Kitale to Eldoret to Kapsabet, and now back home in Matete,” said long-time fan Miss Cynthia “We believed, and they delivered!”
